Hold Back the Years with DHEA

DHEA combats ageing as it has a role in:
• Mental functioning, memory and mood
• Cardiovascular function, cholesterol levels, obesity and osteoporosis
• Immune function & cancer prevention
• Management of anxiety and stress

DHEA is the most abundant hormone in the blood. On demand it is converted into hormones such as oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone. The decline in DHEA in the body is the most reliable indicator of ageing and susceptibility to disease. Most researchers agree to retard ageing and prevent disease, DHEA must be maintained at levels found in people in their 20’s (estimated at 10-15mg daily).

By 70 we only make a 1/4 of the amount made in our prime and levels in women are generally lower (there is a sharp decline in women after menopause since the ovaries also make DHEA). Taking DHEA is similar to women taking oestrogen-replacement therapy (HRT) to look and feel younger, except it can have a positive and invigorating effect on both sexes.

• For Men - In men it is helpful in rejuvenating libido. Of 17 hormones measured in research only one was consistently lower in impotent men and that was DHEA.
• For Women - In women it naturally increases oestrogen levels.

A study showed women taking DHEA had a 16-20% decrease in the risk of developing heart disease. Our body makes lots of DHEA in the early (pre-dawn) morning and production drops dramatically throughout the day.

DHEA is best taken therefore first thing in the morning upon waking to act in sync with the body’s natural daily production.
